RE: Insurance coverage?

Progressive writes a seperate policy for the rv insurance. A thunder storm ripped my awning material. Called progressive on Monday. Adjuster was at my home Tuesday morning and withing 30mins had my check for repairs. In NC TV insurance only transfers liability cover to the TT while towing. No collison or comprehensive unless you have policy on the TT.

RE: 45 yr old TV.... can it work?

I say go for it. Would love to see such a rig. Have a friend towing a pup with either a 78 Grand Wagoner or 70 Chrysler 300. BIL has pic of camper he just met towing a BOLO(Scamp) camper with a restored 55 Nomad wagon.

RE: Tire question....265 to 245?

My c2500 curreenty has 265s on it. The speedo is 3mph slow at 60mph, the 3:73s down effectively to 3:55s and it does downshift very close to what towing with 5.4/3:55 expedition did. They will be replaced with oem size 245s.

RE: Transmission Temp

Been there done that. Fried the trans in our expy on fisrt trip out with it. Only towing 5800gvwr tt. Not on hills, in stop and go traffic, with not enough air flow for cooling. To rebuild the 4r100 is 3k. Luckily mine was still under warranty. Had a B&M trans guage waiting and installed as soon as I got the truck back from the dealer. That trans will heat up in a heart beat when backing an tt up any kind of grade. Always stopped and cooled it down as soon as the guage hit the yellow. Never gets out of green otherwise. Buy the guage.

RE: Having a blast now with camper, have some septic issues.

I use a "johnny cock" to fill the black tank before dumping. Available at camping world for 6 bucks. Flush, hold the drain open and drop it in. It will hold the drain open and fill tank. Just check the monitor and dump when 2/3 or more full. Then back flush as many times as needed to get only clear water out of the black tank. Fill the commode full of water and flush, atleast three times or as many as needed to bottom of tank covered then drop in the chemicals. No need to carry buckets of water or run hoses in the camper.

RE: Up size from 150 to 2500 TV ?

Just changed tv from expedition 5.4 3:55 to chevy 2500 7.4 3:73. TT is 30ft approx 8k as loaded. DW can now actually take a nap while towing. 8mpg towing at 65mph, last return trip slowed to 60, no mpg figures yet. Moving to 3/4 ton is complete new towing experience.

RE: Expedition mirrors

Used the CIPA custom slip ons made to fit the expy/150 mirrors, and added small spot mirrors on the oem mirrors. this gave me 3 three mirrors on each side. no prob towing 30ft tt. These are not stick on or strap on mirrors so thsere is no vibration probs. IIR bout $65 per set. http://www.cipausa.com/ part nr 11600 for a pair.

RE: Camper Key's

Had same problem. Have a local "old style" hardware store. Was out of the correct blanks on first visit, but had them in stock three days later. Wally world can not help you. Now I have a set, DW has a set, set in each of our vehicles, a set in the camper and a hidden emergency set in he little magnetic box outside the camper. Yes I lost more than one set of keys.

RE: Are Used Travel Trailers Selling

They are selling very well in our area. What is not selling are the fivers/tt over 30ft. Dealers/private owners move up to 26 footers very quickly.

RE: Suburban 454 Vortec or 454 pre Vortec?

Just made first trip with n2me 2000 2500 v454 3:73 and mpg was 8 towing 26ft tt approx same weight as yours. Towing same camper with expy 5.4 3:55 got me 6mpg.
If you check kelly blue book retail shud not be more than $8500 for a 2000 c2500 reg cab long bed 454. Local chevy dealer could not sell this truck at that price. I got it from local small wholesale lot for $6k. Took alot of looking but these trucks are out there at reasonable prices.
good luck and get the v454.

RE: Assist Handles

Installed my assist handle over the lil factory one also. Oem handle is white, so doesnt stick out in a crowd. You will find a definet advantage to have both.
With a badly broken ankle I could not have gotten in or out without having both.
Take 10 mins, drill the 4 holes and mount it yourself. Dealer labor will probably tripple your investment.

RE: $75.00 of Diesel is all you get

Here in NC/SC stations not only have the cut off set, but are playing the two different prices game. Swipe the card and the price increases by 10cents per gallon. Of course there is a small almost hidden sign with the cc prices to give you a warning.

RE: ....but at least he was not overwieght

Do not miss the Death Valley ride at all. The bypass is great. However, on last trip coming south in the rain was past by a baby suv towing a small u-hual running probably 75 in the rain and fog. At the end of the bypass the suv was upside down over the guard rail and the little u-haul waiting to be loaded on a flat bed. Seems some of the idiots just moved over to the bypass.
